Bipartisan Lawmakers Highlight Federal Loan Modernization and Lending.gov

August 7, 2026

On August 4, 2026, a bipartisan group of lawmakers circulated a Dear Colleague letter highlighting efforts to modernize the technology supporting federal lending programs.

The letter, signed by Senators Marsha Blackburn and Maggie Hassan and Representatives Brad Finstad and Raja Krishnamoorthi, discusses the Federal Loan Systems Modernization Act and its proposal for a centralized federal lending platform modeled after Grants.gov.

The proposed platform, Lending.gov, is envisioned as a single access point for federal loan programs and shared technology infrastructure for participating agencies, while agencies would retain authority over their individual programs and requirements. The letter also highlights opportunities to strengthen fraud prevention, data sharing, servicing, and the borrower experience across federal lending.
